The Northern Bullants were dealt a comprehensive 73-point loss at the hands of the ladder leading Williamstown Seagulls at Preston City Oval Saturday.

Going into the match sitting sixth on the VFL ladder having won 6 of their past 7 matches, the Bullants were looking to continue their push for a top four spot. That, as it proved was always going to be a tough task against a polished Williamstown outfit.

After a frenetic opening that saw the Seagulls kick three of the first four goals, the Bullants slowly worked their way into the first quarter.

Goals from Fisher and Saad and tenacious in and under work by tough nuts Robinson, Iacobucci and McCorkell saw the Ants cut the margin to 7 by quarter time.

As in the first, Williamstown again held sway early in the second term. At one point stretching the lead out to 27 points before the Ants again rallied with late goals to young Tasmanian Marcus Davies and former West Coast Eagle Ash Arrowsmith.

The Ants went to the long break 15 points down and still well in the hunt.

The third term saw Williamstown assert their dominance to break away from the Bullants with a blistering 7 goals to 2 quarter.

Continual turnovers and a lack of marking forwards hurt the Bullants while up the other end Seagulls forwards Patrick Rose (6 goals) and Matt Little (5 goals) were particularly damaging.

Despite coach David Teague urging his team to respond in front of a vocal home crowed, the final quarter continued much the same as the third. Skill errors and turnovers lead to another dominant 6 goal to 2 quarter by Williamstown.

By the final siren the Seagulls had stretch their margin to over 12 goals.

The only multiple goal kickers for the Ants were Brad Fisher and Ahmed Saad with 2 goals each while McCorkell, Robinson and Jacobs were among the best performers for the Bullants.

Next Sunday August 1st the Northern Bullants will travel to Trevor Barker Oval to take on the Sandringham Dragons. The match commencing at 2:00PM.
