Please bear with us as there have been unavoidable delays with the production of membership tickets. A preliminary design was in place and ready to go to the printers before Christmas, but with the acquisition of our new major sponsor, things have been held up a little as they retain the right to review all material the Bullants issue carrying their logo. We also learned last week that there is a new logo for "AFL Victoria", the new trading name replacing Football Victoria (see below), so we can at least be first off the rank with that.
It will only take three or four days to produce the cards after they approve the design and we'll have them in the mail A.S.A.P. (and probably advise via email as many may prefer to collect personally at a practice match). Junior memberships are available free to all under the age of 15 – simply drop us an email or contact the office – the same conditions for our sponsors approval applies. But junior tickets are produced in-house and can be ready the following day.
A family afternoon is planned for Sunday, March 9999 pool-side at Rydges On Bell where the Bullant list will be presented with their jumpers for season 2007.
This are invariably super days where supporters and families can acknowledge
the efforts of the young men who will represent the
As always we are looking for volunteers to help out at home games and club functions throughout the year. Assistance is needed on the gates, in the canteen, the beer booth, barbeque, for the annual auction and other social events, post-match functions and helping out at the President's Lunches
(Volunteers evening maybe a week or two before the season ????)
Like every other club we derive valuable revenue from Player Sponsorships where supporters for $150 can have there name displayed with a player's photo in the Social Club and acknowledged in our Annual Report.
This year we are offering a unique bonus – for each match, Gary O'Sullivan will select a player (seniors or reserves) who has "gone the extra step" on the day, and the sponsor of that player will receive a luxurious accommodation package for an overnight stay plus breakfast for two at Rydges-On-Bell. With around 60 players and coachs to be sponsored and 20 rounds, that's a one-in-three chance of picking up a $200+ bonus!
We also this year are discouraging where possible nominations of specific players - otherwise we'd have Diggers sponsored ten times and some of the unknown recruits looking decidedly lonely (obviously there are exceptions where family members or employees sponsor a player). "Unallocated" donations and the remaining players will be drawn at the Jumper Presentation Day (FREE to all player sponsors) and sponsors invited to handover the jumper to their player for 2007.
It was announced last week that from February 19, Football Victoria Ltd. will trade under the name of AFL Victoria, according to the organization "a significant move designed to enhance the position of Australian Football as the number one sport in the nation". Apart from the trading name and a new logo, little else changes with the corporate structure and relationships with the AFL, other competition structures, individual clubs and interstate bodies remaining the same as at present.
Although there been little publicity, long time C.E.O. Ken Gannon resigned
just before Christmas to take up an important position with the A.F.L and candidates
for his former position are being sought Australia-wide. Ken's work over the summer months of 2003-04
was instrumental in re-uniting the
Although lists are still to be finalised, this year's Bullant group will have a familiar face to it.
Likely inclusions are Nick Meese, son of former
player, Seconds coach and Life Member John, Jake Williams, son of Carlton great
Greg (oh alright, we know he played a bit for the Swans and Geelong!), Jarrod
Bannister, younger sibling of Jordan, Paul Colbert, brother of 2004-05 player
Brent, Josh and the younger Zac Vansittart and of
course, the Irish boyos, the o'Hailpins although we
suspect we may not see much of Setanta. The final list along with

(blah,
blah, blah)
No match next weekend, but the following week (day to be decided depending on AFL NAB Cup results), we play the Box Hill Hawks – we'll email match details when known. These early practice games in recent years have been primarily for the Carlton squad to keep in touch for NAB Cup engagements and with the earlier AFL start, but this year there are between 65 and 70 players battling for a spot on the Bullant list and selectors have the unenviable task of needing to weed out over twenty who have been with us over the summer months, thus the early weeks will include full Reserves matches and of some importance to many on the borderline..
With the influx of some exciting new talent (and from observation, a somewhat more physically imposing group than in many recent seasons), the playing list will have far more depth and both senior and reserve teams should hopefully be in the thick of finals action again
The one slightly worrying problem at this stage of the season is the condition of the playing surface which is in pretty poor shape.
The ground is being watered to the maximum allowed under Stage 3 restrictions, but right now we would struggle to host any match in which AFL players were playing. We appear to be paying a belated price for a drainage system installed around eight years ago, great in the middle of winter, but in drought conditions a little too effective in removing excess water. It's early days yet but we believe Council is giving consideration to installation of grey water tanks, the runoff from the grandstand roof area and the change rooms more than enough to establish a buffer against severe dry runs.
