The club would like to congratulate Gene Gatto and his committee for getting the side together. Our best wishes go to the coach Sal Galofaro and all of the boys for a great first season. As a Victorian Football League club, the Northern Bullants are affiliated with AFL Club Carlton. The alignment sees Carlton players regularly playing for the Bullants in the VFL as the club aims to help Carlton develop its younger players into regular AFL footballers.
The Northern Bullants Football Club represent elite football in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. It is this representation of Melbourne's north why we have close ties with both the Northern Knights Football Club (Elite U/18s) and the Northern Football League.
A gap was identified in the development pathway for young local footballers, which has resulted in the creation of a Northern Bullants U/18s side in the VAFA. It is hoped that this will provide the club with another program to develop VFL footballers.
The Northern Knights provide the primary development pathway for U/18 footballers to be drafted into the AFL system. If Knights players miss out on being drafted at this stage they are encouraged to play with the Northern Bullants to continue their development and their aim of being drafted to an AFL club.
The Northern Football League having just completed its first season as an association covers the northern suburbs of Melbourne at the local level. The Bullants enjoy a fantastic working relationship with the Northern Football League as evidenced by the club hosting the NFL Finals at Preston City Oval in 2007. In moving forward the Bullants will host a number of regular season NFL matches in addition to the finals series to ensure we represent the centre for elite football in the north.
It is the aim of the Bullants to create a centre for football in Melbourne's north, based at Preston City Oval. The relationships with both the NFL and the Knights are crucial in ensuring that football in the north is successful.
The Northern Bullants also have an affiliated junior club in the Preston Junior Football Club. Playing in the Yarra Valley Junior Football League, the young Bullants also play home matches at Preston City Oval. With the development of these budding young footballers it is hoped that they develop into strong footballers throughout their career with the Knights and the Bullants or even further.
